Day 2

Settling into Tokyo

Woke up at about 8:50, a reasonable hour. I spent until 10:30 writing up yesterday and planning my route for today. Five or so stops, I'm taking a day trip to Yamanote. I buy breakfast at this sweet little French style bakery at Ueno Station, and I make it to stop one by about 11:45: the Hara Model Railway Museum. It was a quaint place. A bit boring, but then there was the diorama!! And you could control one of the model trains!! So I felt very cool (& I got to wear a hat!)!

Fifteen minute hike to the Landmark Tower next. On the way I discovered the Nissan HQ (which was lots of pretty cars). They have a new concept car, they were showing a video about it, and it looked pretty funky. The Landmark Tower complex was huge and confusing, but I got up to floor 69 eventually (nice). The view was pretty lovely, but my camera died so that was less lovely. Had a wander through the Queen's Park complex, another mall attached to the Landmark Tower.

On the way to the tower. Was sure there would be a geocache near this statue - I had a look, but didn't seem to be anything.

Took the train to Yamashita Park to have a little wander. Lots of cute dogs in this park. Had some food and rested, which made me feel a lot better.

So many palm reading places! Found a gorgeous jewelry shop, though I didn't buy anything. Saw kids running around after school which was very cute, they wear little colourful flaps on their backpacks to show they're walking home from school. Found this gorgeous little zen garden near the train station.

Just wish you couldn't hear the street from the garden. Time to go home! I'm exhausted and tomorrow is going to be a super early morning.

Getting back to the hostel, one of the guests (the laptop one from yesterday. He’s there every time I’m in the building - does he leave?) explained the cleaners had put me in the wrong bed, and the manager (who checked me in this morning) had had to move my things, which of course I didn’t mind at all. It happens, I still have somewhere to sleep and I have all my things.

This little phone charging brick is saving my butt, it's just so helpful when I'm out on long days. Getting better at switching my Japanese brain on - remembered the words for sorry and please today. Now I just need a few more words and I'll be even more set! Got to find a nearby go club. That's tonight's mission - if I can find one open late I'll head over. Must visit the Nihon Kiin (go headquarters) before I go, too. I didn't end up going anywhere tonight, just took it easy.
